Thank you for welcoming a new Dellhaven plant into your garden! Each plant is carefully grown and packed with care, and we’re delighted it has arrived safely to you. Below is a general guide to help your plant settle in and thrive.
Unpacking Your Plant
When your plant arrives:
-Carefully open the box using scissors or a knife, cutting away tape gently to avoid damaging the plant inside.
-Remove any protective wrapping slowly and carefully lift the plant out.
It is common for plants to look slightly tired or a little dry after transit, but don’t worry, this can be easily remedied with proper care.
First Watering
Plants often become slightly dehydrated during shipping, especially in hot months and with further travel distances. Once unpacked:
-If the potting soil is dry, give the plant a thorough watering until water drains from the bottom of the pot.
Planting:
When ready to plant your new plant:
-Choose the location where you would like your new plant to be situated (see product pages for any specific advice on locations for a particular plant).
-Dig a hole deep enough so that the root ball sits level with the surrounding soil.
-Gently remove the plant from its pot by supporting the base and easing the root ball out.
-If roots are tightly wound, lightly tease them apart to encourage outward growth.
-Place the plant carefully into the hole and back-fill with soil, pressing gently to remove air pockets.
-Water deeply after planting to help settle the soil around the roots and reduce shock to the plant.
Ongoing Watering and Care:
-Check the moisture levels of the soil around your plant regularly. If the area around your plant is dry, your plant will require watering. Regular watering will likely be necessary as your new plant establishes, especially in dryer months with not much rain.
-When watering, water the plant deeply at its base, avoiding the leaves as this can cause scorching on sunny days.
-Applying mulch, such as straw, around your plant is a helpful way to retain more moisture in the soil, as well as lessening weed growth. Simply apply a thick layer of mulch around your plant and water deeply.
